South of Market Redevelopment Plan Amendment

Environmental Impact Report

Client: San Francisco Redevelopment Agency

Project Location: San Francisco, CA

Description:
South of Market is an area directly adjacent to the financial district of downtown San Francisco was severely damaged during the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989. The San Francisco Redevelopment Agency declared the area a Recovery Area where limited redevelopment powers could be used to aid in the repair of damaged structures in the area. Over time, however, increasing pressure mounted from social service providers for an expanded redevelopment concept to provide additional housing in an area that is characterized by a high degree of homelessness. In order to satisfy California environmental Quality Act requirements, TAHA was asked by the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency to prepare the necessary Environmental Impact Report. The environmental report addresses the impacts of development on approximately 30 opportunity sites throughout the recovery area.
